2017 -2018 CMS Debate Competition

000The First CMS Debate Competition was held on 29th June, 2018. “Movies are better than books” and “Single-gender schools are better than mixed schools” were the motions for our P.5 and P.6 students. Our students respectively delivered their speeches and rebuttals in front of their peers.

The debate was a learning opportunity for our students to develop a range of skills to voice their point of views in a proper manner. It was the product of the collaborative team work. The competition truly revealed the educational value of its process.

Our judges, Mr. Cooper and Mr. Lim both gave a constructive and valuable feedback to our students. We hope that our students communication skills and to listen to different strategies to convince others can be enhanced more effectively when they play an active role in the debate. Debate training will be continuously implemented in our Key Stage Two (P.4-6) English curriculum.

Result:
Motion: “Movies are better than books.”
Winning team: P.5 Sun Class
The best debater: P.5A Natalie Ma

Motion: “Single-gender schools are better than mixed schools”
Winning team: P.6A
The best debaters: P.5A Godfrey Liu & P.6 Amy Baldwin
