A. Objectives of Library skills Curriculum

  • To promote school's reading culture, let students get the ability of Self-Learning; 
  • Promoting reading to support the Chinese and English bilingual immersion program;
  • Guiding our students in the identification, interpretation, and use of library materials, information, resources, and equipment
  • Encourage Parents understand the situation in the children's reading.
  • To help students develop self-nurturing reading habits.

B. Curriculum Description:

Library lessons meet once a week for 35 minutes.  Although no report grade is given for library, certain skill activities may be included in the Language Arts evaluation.

P1-P3 skills include, but are not limited to:

  • Proper book careIdentify parts of a book: title, author, illustrator, publisher and copyright date;
  • Recognize how books are organized in the Easy/Everyone section; 
  • Differentiate between fiction and nonfiction; locate each area in the library;
  • Develop an appreciation for noted authors and illustrators of children's books.

P4-P6 skills include, but are not limited to:

  • Identify and use the parts of a book: table of contents, glossary, index and appendix;
  • Recognize and understand the use of the Dewey Decimal System as an organizational tool;
  • Ability to write a original story. 

 


C. Teaching Strategies

  • Teacher Librarian organize and edit the curriculum according to the students' abilities and levels.
