English Subject

 

1. Overall Aims of the School-Based Subject Curriculum

    • To develop and enhance students with efficient and effective reading skills
    • To develop and enhance students’ English Language proficiency and competency
    • To equip students with excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • To provide our students to have a great chance in life with a good understanding of the many different ways English is used
    • To give our students a great platform on which to build their future education
    • To establish values that will allow our students to act with thoughtfulness and humanity 

2. Objectives of Subject Curriculum

    • To provide a Balanced Literacy Approach in the teaching of English by designing activities and lessons which help students to develop their reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing and representing skills
    • To cultivate a reading habit through different reading activities (storytelling, reading aloud, shared reading, guided reading, independent and home reading) in or out of English classes
    • To improve students’ writing skills through process writing and other writing tasks
    • To cater for learners uniqueness 
    • To provide interactive learning experiences (e.g. co-operative learning, flipped classroom)
    • To provide opportunities for students to enhance their English skills through a variety of English activities (Speech Festival, Happy English, excursion, field trips and other inter- school competitions & activities) 
    • To improve their understanding of English and develop their creativity and thinking skills
    • To provide a rich language environment
    • To equip the skills needed for secondary schools

Introduction

A. Objectives of English Language Curriculum

1.Promote “Reading to Learn” culture in school.

2.Develop students' language competency and encourage them to use English as a means of communication in daily life.

3. To provide a warm and enjoyable atmosphere to motivate students to learn English.

4.Promote school-based curriculum development

5.Raise professional expertise of English language teachers.

B. Objectives of Net Scheme:

1.To provide an authentic environment for students to learn English and develop their confidence in using English for communication.

2. To develop innovative teaching and learning methods, materials, curricular and activities suited to the needs of local students.

3. To promote the professional development of local teachers

4. To disseminate good practices in language teaching and learning developed within the scheme through regional teacher development programmes, such as experience-sharing seminars/workshops and networking activities.
